How to Change Your Recovery Coach or Provider
You can change your recovery coach. Start by talking to the provider, who may be able to offer a different coach. If you want a new provider, check the notice period in your service agreement, find the new provider before you leave, tell your current provider and anyone helping with your plan, then update your provider relationships in the my NDIS portal. You don't have to wait for your plan to end.
What Are the Steps to Change Provider?
The NDIA sets out five steps.
- Talk to your provider. Ask for the changes you want, or a different coach. Your my NDIS contact, support coordinator or a trusted person can help
- Check your service agreement for the notice period, and any fee for leaving without the agreed notice
- Find a new provider before you finish with the current one, so there's no gap. Meet them first and make a new service agreement
- Tell your current provider you want to leave, settle any outstanding payments, and tell your plan manager if you have one
- Update your provider relationships in the my NDIS participant portal, or ask your my NDIS contact or call 1800 800 110
What If You're Unhappy With How You've Been Treated?
You can contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission.
The NDIA says that if you don't feel comfortable talking to your provider, or you're unhappy with the way they talk to you, you can contact the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission. You can also tell the Commission if a worker or provider isn't following the NDIS Code of Conduct.
Looking for a Recovery Coach?
We'll connect you with a registered provider of psychosocial recovery coaching, in person or online.
Does Changing Provider Affect Your Funding?
No. The funding stays in your plan. The new provider charges against the same recovery coaching budget.
Check how many hours are left before you start with someone new, and agree how the new provider will use them. If your needs have changed and you need more or different supports, ask about a plan change. Our guide to getting recovery coaching in your plan covers that.
